Acer introduced a new range of gaming laptops targeted at non-gamers. Performance, a metallic chassis, a 15.6-inch display with a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a sub-2 cm z-height (0.78 inches) are all combined in the Acer Aspire Nitro 7. Like other items in the Nitro line, the new laptops will be reasonably priced.

The gaming laptop industry has seen massive expansion in recent years. Still, it is now actively segmenting since modern consumers want specific features targeted to their individual needs and adequate processing power for their games.

Acer Aspire Nitro 7 Features

1- Design

The Acer Nitro 7 gaming laptop’s understated design is something I like about it. Smudges are discouraged by the sleek, monolithic construction and the black finish. The aluminum covering on the lid provides additional protection for the display. Lid flex was present, but not enough to cause display deformation. Instead of glowing logos or RGB LEDs, the lid sports simple, glossy diagonal stripes. The dual-hinge structure appears sturdy, and the display can extend outward to a maximum angle of about 170 degrees.

You can utilize the Acer Nitro 7 at work without drawing too much attention to yourself because of its usually elegant, understated appearance. It is on the heavy side, weighing 2.5kg, even though its narrowest point is only 19mm thick. Thankfully, a 15.6-inch laptop is relatively tiny, so I had no trouble putting it in a backpack.

2- Display

The Acer Aspire Nitro 7, 15.6-inch, 1920×1080 IPS screen appears excellent. It’s still a reasonably simple display. However, the viewing angles are slightly wide, and the Nitro 7 quickly passes the 250-nit barrier I use to test batteries. Surprisingly, accurate color reproduction is also achieved. This is one of the few notable advantages that the Nitro 7 has over the notoriously subpar Acer Predator Helios 300 17 AMD display.

3- Keyboard & Touchpad

Considering that the keyboard takes up nearly the whole width of the chassis, one may overlook the slightly angled number-pad keys. The full-size arrow keys are jammed into the central keyboard region, shortening the right Shift and number pad “0” buttons. Another slight game touch is the thick red border that encircles the arrow keys and the clusters of keys W, A, S, and D.

4- Connectivity

The Acer Nitro 7 has three USB 3.1 ports on the left, two Type-A and one Type-C port.

Like Kensington, this side has a cable-lockdown notch, an Ethernet port, and an HDMI 1.4 video output. Having the last thing with you is usually helpful in public places or student dorms. Connectivity is finished with an audio combo jack and an old-style USB 2.0 Type-A port on the right side.

The oddly placed AC power port in the middle makes this a little less of a problem. It has a right-angle power connector that lets you run the wire down the edge of the laptop instead of sticking out the side. On the Acer Aspire Nitro 7, there is no room for a flash card reader somewhere.

5- A Classy Choice for Casual Gaming

The Acer Nitro 7 gaming laptop mainly combines high-end notebook design with performance ready for games. It’s all-metal body, ability to hold three drives, and battery life of more than nine hours of video play are all unusual for gaming laptops in this price range. However, it needs to work better for gaming for this much money.

6- Battery

Despite Acer’s claims of a 7-hour battery life, it could only be used continuously for about 4-5 hours. Recall that this was only partially utilized, mainly with the Opera browser.

The screen brightness was adjusted to roughly 40%, and the keyboard lighting was entirely off. At that moment, I had no graphics-intensive apps open on my computer. Thus, the discrete Nvidia GPU was idle. While not bad, the Battery Eater Pro benchmark might have been completed quickly. It took one hour and forty-nine minutes to complete.

7- Acer Nitro 7 Performance

When I needed to put it through its paces, it didn’t disappoint. The high-end equipment I looked at resulted in a delightful gaming experience. Thanks to its outstanding 1080p gaming performance, the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti had no trouble driving the higher refresh rate display, even in some demanding games. It must still be more potent than the Dell Alienware 15 R4 and the Asus ROG FX503.

Some older titles, like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, produced a consistent 56.8 frames per second when I ran them with DX12 and the High graphics preset. With the pictures set to “Ultra,” the Acer Aspire Nitro 7 averaged 78 frames per second, making it easy to negotiate Doom’s demon-infested alleyways.

Price And Availability

Acer Nitro 7 gaming laptop is not easy to find in shops. The most expensive version of this laptop, with the 144 Hz screen, i7 processor, and RTX 2060 graphics, costs about 1450 EUR in Germany. This is about 100 EUR more than a Nitro 5 with the same specs.

I tried looking for it in the US, but the Predator Helios 300, which is almost identical and costs less than $1400, would make it hard for it to compete.

Final Verdict

That being said, the Acer Aspire Nitro 7 looks great and works well. Despite not having the newest Intel Core CPUs or RTX graphics cards, it works well overall.
